Denver's Civic Center on the Eve of the Millennium

The city of Denver went all out for their true millennium celebration on December 31st, 2000. The Civic Center was particularly colorful as we neared the 16th Street Mall. Over 200,000 people celebrated with us. It was featured on the d-store Winter Contest for week 4. This long exposure was later the Photo of the Day at Photohighway for December 3, 2001.

Winter Aspen at Vail

The aspen trees take on a blue cast in the shadow of the mountain, with eery almost-human eyes looking on. The photo was an honorable mention winner in the Skiing Destinations category in December 2000 at travelphotocontests.com.

Blanca en la Mañana

An eye-catching red barn is right in front of Blanca Peak. This image was the photo of the day for December 20, 2000 on bestfoto.com and a week 2 winner in the d-store Winter Photo Contest.

Voluptuous

The forms of the Great Sand Dunes are almost human. This image was the Zing photo of the day for December 17, 2000.

 Blanca Peak

Blanca Peak, on the left, is the fourth-highest peak in Colorado at 14,345 feet; Mount Lindsey is to its east (on the right) at 14,042 feet. These rugged peaks in the Sangre de Christo range are tough climbs. The panorama was the photo of the day at bestfoto.com on December 12, 2000.

 Spanish Peaks

These twin peaks rise up to the west of Walsenburg, near La Veta Pass. They won photo of the day honors in the panorama category at bestfoto.com on November 30, 2000.

Crystal Falls

This lovely fall is reachable via a very steep hike from the town of Green Mountain Falls. On this day, one could see why they named it Crystal Falls! The image was the photo of the day in the Landscape/Nature category on November 23, 2000 at Digital Photo Contest.

Window of Opportunity

The jutting monoliths of Roxborough State Park look even more magnificent after a snow. This photo was was the Zing photo of the day for November 14, 2000.

Historic Crystal Mill

The Crystal Mill is located above Marble. It is one of the most photographed buildings in Colorado (some people say the most photographed building). This won photo of the day for November 9, 2000 Steve's Digicams.

I'll Wait Here Until Mama Comes

We awoke one morning to find this sweet fawn in our backyard. After a while, mama came back to her little one. This was the user photo of the day at iwon.com, on November 5, 2000.

Cliff Palace

A view of Cliff Palace in Mesa Verde National Park. The image took third place honors in the Archaeology and Ruins category in October, 2000 at travelphotocontests.com.

4-Wheeling

We went 4-wheeling up Lead King Basin above Crystal, Colorado. It was a scary yet exhilarating drive, and I would do it all over again just for the rush! The Raggeds Wilderness is in the background. It won the Travel Photo of the Day for October 19, 2000 on Digital Photo Contest.

Aspen Perspective

To get this perspective shot, I lay down on the forest floor above Crystal, Colorado. It was the tallest and healthiest aspen stand I've ever seen. The image was the Landscape/Nature Photo of the Day for September 26, 2000 on Digital Photo Contest. It was also featured on the d-store "Colors of Fall" contest for week 5 in the fall of 2000.
