REAL Rancher
I had always wanted to photograph a real cowboy. This Douglas
County rancher informed me that a rancher is the one who hires
the cowboys, thus the title of this photo. His image was the Bestfoto
Photo of the Day in the People category on April 22, 2004. This
image and others taken on the same site were featured on Shutterfreaks
as a Special
Project titled "The Rancher." |

Wild West
A Douglas County rancher (see above) produced this collection
of old West memorabilia for me to photograph. We created a still
life together, which later won in that category at Shutterbugs on April 20, 2004. |

My Weimaraner grand-dog Ottmar has convinced me that I am not
William Wegman, as he hates to pose for me. On this Easter Day,
though, he did oblige me this brief moment. It became the Shutterbugs

Pass is said to be the best place in North American to see white-tailed
ptarmigan in winter plumage. We had success on a sunny March,
finding over 30 birds in deep 4-foot drifts. One bird became the
